About the Natural Epicurean Public Classes
The Natural Epicurean periodically offers a range of public classes and special events, including classes that will teach you vegan/vegetarian kitchen basics, cooking for the family (and finicky kids!), gluten free, raw food fun, and flavorful menu Friday night classes. Beginners are welcome, so get ready to cook up wholesome, healthy and delicious meals with the knowledge you gain from Natural Epicurean culinary courses at our new kitchen space at 1700 South Lamar in Austin, Texas.
Here are a few upcoming public classes.
Healing Winter Soups with Chef Rachel
Nothing takes the edge off a wintry day like a hot bowl of soup; some soups are even traditionally used to ease cold and flu symptoms. Whether you’re hungry for new recipes to use this winter or want to learn more about healing and food, join us!
Indigenous Healing Foods of Mexico
For many years, Chef Ken Rubin and Dr. Leslie Korn (along with Dr. Rudolph Ryser) ran week-long indigenous foods and culinary traditions seminars in the Mexican jungle, attended by people around the globe. Join us in Austin for a "taste" of this cultural cooking expedition at our 1-day seminar.
A Taste of the Tohoku
Saturday, February 25, 2012 from 1 - 3 pm
Natural Epicurean welcomes Elizabeth Andoh to Austin to celebrate the publication of her forthcoming – and very special – e-original book: KIBŌ Brimming with Hope: Recipes & Stories from Japan’s Tohoku. This is Elizabeth’s sixth book, a culinary tribute to the Tohoku region that was devastated by earthquake, tsunami and nuclear accident on March 11, 2011. Both Elizabeth and her publisher, Ten Speed Press, a Crown imprint of Random House, have pledged a portion of book proceeds to Japan’s recovery efforts.
Award-winning author and chef, Elizabeth Andoh will teach A Taste of the Tohoku, a 2-hour presentation and tasting that is free and open to the public. Guests will be introduced to the regional flavors of Japan’s northeast, the Tohoku region. Elizabeth will combine and integrate Tohoku specialties with basic washoku principles (Japan’s indigenous food culture) and the no-waste approach of kansha (appreciation). All foods prepared and served will be vegan. Space is limited, RSVP here to save your space.
